Labour May Continue Strike Tuesday After Rejecting N62,000 Offer, Demands N250,000

Image
The Organized Labour has declared it will not accept a "starvation wage" of N62,000 or N100,000 as the minimum wage for Nigerian workers, insisting instead on N250,000 as the living wage. This position was reiterated by Chris Onyeka, Assistant General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief show on Monday. Onyeka highlighted that the NLC had set a one-week deadline for the Federal Government, expiring at midnight on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Onyeka emphasized that if the Federal Government and National Assembly fail to meet workers' demands by the deadline, the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) would reconvene to decide on resuming the nationwide industrial action that was temporarily paused last week. "Our stance is clear. We have never entertained accepting N62,000 or any wage that cannot sustain Nigerian workers. We will not negotiate a starvation wage. We remain firm at N250,000, which w...

Employment gains in May were observed in health care and social assistance (+30,000), finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing (+29,000), business, building and other support services (+19,000), and accommodation and food services (+13,000). Conversely, employment declined in construction (-30,000), transportation and warehousing (-21,000), and utilities (-5,400). Most of the new jobs were part-time, while full-time employment slightly decre...

Image
An autopsy performed on late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, professionally known as MohBad, at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has suggested a possible cause of his death. The report, obtained by TheCable on Thursday, indicated that while the exact cause remains uncertain, a potential drug reaction is suspected based on limited post-mortem and toxicology findings. Samples of Mohbad’s gastric content, blood, bone marrow, liver, kidney, and lung were collected for comprehensive toxicology examination. The results revealed the presence of diphenhydramine, an antihistamine, in his system, though not in a fatal concentration. Diphenhydramine is used to treat allergies, stomach ailments, cold symptoms, and anxiety. The anatomical and pathological examination noted an injury on Mohbad’s right forearm and moderate to severe decomposition of his body upon exhumation. The report suggests a potential fatal anaphylactic shock or drug reaction, despite inconclusive post-mortem...
