  The Lagos State Government has sealed off Oke-Afa Market, Isolo and Katangua Market, Abule Egba, for violating waste disposal regulations and for sundry unhygienic practices around the markets, constituting grave environmental infractions. The Director, Public Affairs of the Lagos State Waste Managemnet Agency (LAWMA), Folashade Kadiri, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said the closure of the markets is in a bid to curb mounting environmental health concerns. Commenting on the development, Folashade said that the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, noted that the government’s zero tolerance for waste initiative which started last year was still on course, stressing that any market or facility engaging in reckless waste disposal would be sanctioned. The sisters were removed by armed men who burst into their home just 15 miles (25 kilometres) from Abuja city centre, according to the family. Attackers killed one sister, 21-year-old Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, when a ransom deadline passed. According to a statement by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, the girls were rescued on Saturday night in the Kajuru forest in neighbouring Kaduna State. “The FCT Police has rescued the victims and reunited them with their families,” a police statement said. Two members of the Civilian Joint Taskforce have been killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Boko Haram terrorist in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State. Makinde, who visited the scene of the explosion Tuesday night, said preliminary investigations by security agencies revealed that the explosion caused by explosive devices stored by illegal miners. He also said though investigations were still ongoing, anyone found culpable would be brought to book. “Preliminary investigations by the security agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices there which caused the blast.
