A passenger train has struck a Lagos state government BRT staff bus at PWD junction, Ikeja area of the state on Thursday. So far , two persons have been confirmed dead by emergency responders, and 84 persons injured and rushed to nearby hospitals. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) spokesman, Adebayo Taofiq said though the bus involved in the crash is the same as the regular BRT buses in the state, the bus was a staff bus of the Lagos State Government. Also, a spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency in Lagos, Ibrahim Farinloye said, “Two adult females staff of the State Government dead and several injured evacuated.” “The State Government staff bus was trying to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta trapped the bus on its rail,” he added. The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday led a coordinated demonstration to the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja to protest the outcome of the February 25 poll. The PDP flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar; the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu; the Vice Presidential Candidate of the party and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, amongst other leaders of the party led the protest. The protesters later blocked the INEC headquarters’ entrance. The security personnel at the Commission have since locked the gate. Others at the protest include the Chairman of Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel; the Director General of PCC and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

  Juicy Jay, Olivia, Yemi, and Nelisa were among the four housemates that left  Big Brother Titans   on Sunday’s eviction episode.  Juicy Jay and Olivia were the first to be sent home from the elimination episode, while Yemi Cregx and Nelisa were the second ousted pair of the seventh Sunday live show. Yemi and Nelisa were dislodged, however remained active in the house; Yemi was famous for his interest in female issues, and Nelisa was known for advising other residents. At one point, the Heads of House were the Yelisa couple. The housemate up for eviction this week were, Khosi, Yemi, Nelisa, Ebubu, Miracle, Tsatsii, Yvonne and Justin. There are now 12 housemates in the house contesting for the grand prize.

  Abdullahi, one of the sons of the late former Head of State, Sani Abacha, is dead. This was announced on Saturday by his sister, Gumsu Sani Abacha. Gumsu broke the sad news in a Twitter post. According to reports, he died on Saturday at the family’s Nelson Mandela Street residence in Abuja, “Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. I lost my younger brother Abdullahi Sani Abacha,” she wrote. “May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him jannatul firdous, Ameen. Please include him in your prayers,” she added. Born in 1987, the deceased was one of the nine children left behind by the late military head of states. The funeral prayer of the deceased was held at the National Mosque Abuja, today [Sunday].  Various paramount Nigerian politicians including the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettim, and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Binu were present at the event.

  The Supreme Court on Friday directed that old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes remain in circulation till December 31, 2023. The highest judicial court also overruled the Federal Government’s naira redesign policy, declaring it as an affront to the 1999 Constitution. Justice Emmanuel Agim, who read the lead judgement, held that the preliminary objections by the defendants (the Attorney General of the Federation, Bayelsa and Edo states) are dismissed as the court has the jurisdiction to entertain the suit. Citing Section 23(2)1 of the constitution, the court held that the dispute between the Federal Government and states must involve law or facts. The apex court further held that President Muhammadu Buhari in his broadcast admitted that the policy is flawed with a lot of challenges.
