Ex-NLC Boss Advises South-West Governors Over Amotekun Security Outfit

A former Vice President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Issa Aremu has advised South-West governors over the establishment of the Amotekun security Organization. The Amotekun security outfit was launched on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital to deal with security  controversies in  Yorubaland. Aremu, while briefing  the press during the weekend in Ilorin, Kwara State, warned the governors not to decentralize the police via the backdoor. According to him, security is on the exclusive list of the nation’s constitution and as such, short term measures should not be used to solve security issues affecting the Country. “It is a very interesting initiative to address the issue of security at the regional level, but I’m not sure whether most Nigerians, including the citizens in the Southwest, are clear about the rules guiding the new security outfit,” he said. ...

Iran says it "unintentionally" shot down Ukrainian airplane, blames "human error."

    The 176  victims  onboard the Boeing 737 flight that  crashed  after takeoff from Tehran on Wednesday hailed from various countries.  Among the victims were 63 Canadian nationals and 82 Iranians. Iran's Revolutionary Guard accepted on Saturday it accidentally shot down a Ukrainian International Airlines passenger jet on Wednesday, killing all 176 aboard. The head of the Revolutionary Guard's aerospace division said his unit accepts "full responsibility." General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said on state TV that forces were on high alert, and that an officer misjudged the plane for a hostile missile and made the "bad decision" to open fire, The Associated Press reported. He said he "wished" he "was dead" when he learned about the downing of the aircraft. Mass Communication Degree has been scaled down in Nigeria institutions by the  National Universities Commission ,  NUC . According to the NUC, Mass Communication has been dissociated into seven distinct  a cademic  programs   in order to meet present demand. The commission said that the new development takes effect from 2020 admissions into Nigerian universities. In a chat  with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, NUC’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, listed the seven new courses under the new Programmes/Departments, to be domiciled in a Faculty / School / College of Communication and Media Studies as: Journalism & Media Studies Public Relations Advertising Broadcasting Film & Multi-Media Studies Development of Communication Studies Information & Media Studies.

Nigeria : FRSC To Sue Those Who Illegally Use Sirens.

                          Image Courtesy pixabay/diegoparra / 10 images The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has declared to arrest and prosecute private persons who illegally use sirens, escorts, and flashers on the roads insisting that the act is  unconstitutional. This was unfolded by the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, in Abuja. He explained that only government officials are entitled to have sirens and escorts on their vehicle. The FRSC boss deplored the increasing rate at which private citizens buy pick-up trucks and place sirens on them with escorts. “Most of these convoys you are seeing are not even government officials, I think its an abuse of freedom of movement and there must be a stop to this. 50 Dead, Over 200 Injured in Stampede at Qasem Soleimani’s Funeral

                                            Image Credit- Santa Maria Times A stampede at the funeral of slain Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani has left aboutt 50 people dead and over 200 injured, according to Iranian state television. Soleimani, killed in a U.S. airstrike Thursday at Baghdad International Airport, was to be laid to rest in his hometown of Kerman. The burial was postponed after multitude of people who turned out for the funeral made it difficult for vehicles to reach the cemetery.  “The death toll of this incident is over 50,” said Abbas Amian, the director general of the coroner bureau in Kerman, in comments to the state-run IRNA news agency. “Most of them are men, ranging from young to adults.” Amian also said that over 213 people were injured in the stampede.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Chairman in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State who was abducted last week by Boko Haram   Revolutionaries   has spoken out from the hideout of his abductors. In a video clip posted on Twitter by journalist, Ahmad Salkida, on Sunday, Andimi pleaded with the Adamawa State Government and CAN leadership to come to his rescue. Andimi was on Thursday abducted during the New Year celebration.
