Tinubu Orders National Flags at Half-Mast in Mourning of Late Army Chief Lagbaja

President Bola Tinubu has directed that national flag be flown at half-mast across Nigeria for the next seven days in honor of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

Gen. Lagbaja, who was appointed by Tinubu on June 19, 2023, passed away on Tuesday night following a prolonged illness.
In a statement released by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the president expressed his sorrow over the death of the Army chief, who died at the age of 56.
“President Bola Tinubu deeply regrets the passing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja after a brief illness. He has directed that national flags be flown at half-mast for seven days throughout the country in tribute to the late Army chief,” Akume said.
The president also extended his condolences to Lagbaja’s family, praising his service to the nation and expressing hope that his loved ones find strength during this difficult time.
In addition, Defence Ministers Mohammed Badaru and Bello Matawalle offered their sympathies to the president, the military, and the Lagbaja family.
Describing the late chief as a significant loss to the military and the nation, the ministers commended his professionalism and contributions to Nigeria’s internal security. They noted that his collaborative spirit and dedication would be deeply missed.
