Tinubu Appeals to Youths: "No Need for Protest, I'm Addressing Your Concerns"

President Bola Tinubu has encouraged Nigerians, notably the youth planning a national protest over the high cost of living, to reconsider their plans, pleading that such actions are needless.
Tinubu assured that he is fully aware of the grievances being expressed and is actively working to address them.
Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris conveyed the President's message during a press briefing at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Idris emphasized that the President is committed to improving the nation's economic situation and has taken the concerns of the protesters seriously.
“The President has asked me to communicate to the youth that he is attentive to their concerns and is making efforts to ensure the country’s economy improves,” Idris said. “He believes that there is no need for the planned protest and encourages the youth to await the government's response to their issues.”

Meanwhile, the Amnesty International (AI) has warned President Bola Tinubu’s administration against obstructing Nigerians who plan to protest against current economic hardships and hunger. AI said that such threats are unlawful, highlighting that Nigerians have a constitutional right to peaceful protest.

AI posted on X: “Threatening peaceful protesters is unlawful and undermines freedom of assembly, which is protected by international law and Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution. Nigerians should not be denied their right to peaceful protest through threats of violence and false claims.”
