Discharge all appointees in security sector – Rep tells Tinubu
Abdulsamad Dasuki, a member of the House of Representatives, has encouraged President Bola Tinubu to dismiss all his appointees in the security sector due to their failure to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
Dasuki made this call during a debate on a motion condemning the recent suicide bombing in Borno State, which was sponsored by Ahmed Jaha.
He argued that the country needs to hold individuals accountable and recommended that the House should urge the President to sack all political appointees in the security sector.
“In the last year since we were inaugurated, no one has been sacked. It's high time we held people responsible. It's high time we found a scapegoat, which is justifiable. These appointees have not lived up to expectations. The President appointed these positions to northerners to defend their people. That’s what he practically said.
“Every day, we face two or three security-related issues. We should call on the President to sack all security political appointees. They have all been in their positions for ten months. Political appointees in the security sector can go,” Dasuki stated.
Among the northern political appointees are the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, the Minister of Police, Ibrahim Gaidam, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Additionally, Yusuf Gagdi, Chairman of the House Committee on Navy, opposed the notion that the security sector was predominantly controlled by northerners, pointing out that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, are southerners.
Following the debate, the House resolved to condemn the bombing and asked the Committee on National Security and Intelligence to investigate the incident.
